Mr. President,
Ukraine welcomes the ongoing political transition in Syria and commends the Syrian people’s determination to build a future rooted in democracy, justice, and respect for human rights.
The fall of the former regime marked a historic turning point, yet significant challenges persist.
Ensuring accountability for past human rights violations - arbitrary detention, torture, and enforced disappearances - remains essential for achieving sustainable peace and reconciliation. In this regard, the work of the Commission of Inquiry continues to play a crucial role in documenting violations, preserving evidence and supporting future accountability processes.
Ukraine also notes the importance of strengthening national efforts on transitional justice, including through cooperation with relevant international mechanisms and the meaningful participation of civil society, victims and survivors.
At the same time, we must not lose sight of the urgent humanitarian needs in Syria, where millions of people face food insecurity. Ukraine remains committed to contributing to global food security and supporting international humanitarian efforts aimed at assisting those in need.
By standing for justice, accountability and humanitarian solidarity, we reaffirm our support for a peaceful, stable and democratic Syria.
Thank you.
