Statement
by H. E. Ambassador Mr. Mykola Maimeskul, Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the UN Office and other international organizations in Geneva
at the 65th biennial session of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe
(10 April, 2013)
Dear Mr. President,
Dear Mr. Executive Secretary,
Dear Mr. Director-General,
Ladies and Gentlemen
It is a great pleasure and honour for me to be here among you at the 65th biennial session of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe.
From the beginning I would like to welcome all participants on behalf of my delegation and wish a successful and fruitful work during next three days. I would also like to express our satisfaction with regard to the Outcome of the review of the 2005 reform of ECE. In our view, this document reflects results-oriented compromise, reached at the end of long period of intensive consultations and meetings and taking into account the request of the UN General Assembly for budget reductions.
In this context I would like to thank H.E. Mr. Zvekić for his remarkable leadership during this process.
On behalf of the government of my country, I would stress out that we are attaching a great importance to the work priorities and activities of the Commission as a multilateral platform which facilitates greater economic integration and cooperation among its member countries and promotes sustainable development and economic prosperity. Ukraine is highly committed to contribute to achieving these common objective.
We are satisfied that the subprogrammes, the Sectoral Committees and technical assistance under the subprogrammes on Trade and on Economic Cooperation and Integration were preserved. Te merger of the two relevant divisions should aim at increasing the effectiveness and results of the work of the two subprogrammes and their Committees and we are expecting that the new Division will be fully staffed at the appropriate levels. In this context, I would like to thank the ECE for the preparation of the Innovation Performance Review of Ukraine, which was presented at the 7th session of Committee on Economic Cooperation and Integration in last December.
In the future work areas of ECE Ukraine stands for maintaining the resources of the Sustainable Energy subprogramme at least at its current levels.
In conclusion, I would like once again to wish to all of us fruitful and productive results during this year session.
Thank you for attention!
