Statement by the Permanent Representative of Ukraine in Geneva at the 19th session of the UN Human Rights Council

Within the framework of participation of the delegation of Ukraine in the 19th regular session of UN Human Rights Council (HRC), the Head of Ukrainian delegation, Permanent representative of Ukraine in Geneva Ambassador Mykola Maimeskul made a statement on 1 March 2012.

In his speech he confirmed intention and readiness of Ukraine, which took part in the work of the of HRC since its establishing, to continue active cooperation with the Council, thus strengthening a positive image of Ukraine as an active and responsible defender of human rights both at national and international levels.

Particularly, in the context of promoting Ukrainian initiative on the role of prevention in the promotion and protection of human rights, he stressed the importance of Ukraine’s approaches to developing prevention strategies and mechanisms for the sake of full enjoyment of human rights and freedoms.

Also, in light of the continued escalation of violence in Syria, the attention of the session was drawn to the urgent need of putting an end to massive human rights violations in the country and to the necessity of tackling with the humanitarian crisis, stemming from the situation occurred.
