105th session of the International Labour Conference has began its work in Geneva

On May 30,2016 the 105th session of the International Labour Conference (ILC), senior executive forum of the International Labour Organization (ILO), has began its work in Geneva and will continue its activities until June 11.

Opening the session, H.E. Guy Ryder, ILO Director-General stressed, among other matters, that the issues of social protection, sustainable development and social dialogue in order to build a better society remain the key priorities in the modern world of labour. According to the Head of the ILO, discussions within the framework of the ongoing ILC session regarding the abovementioned issues should help the Organization to improve its program of activities and elaborate recommendations on the implementation of policies in these areas, taking into account the Sustainable development goals for the 2015 – 2030 period, aspects of globalization and demographic change, the impact of regional conflicts on these processes and global climate change, as well as the need to overcome the existing income inequality.

Participants heard the statement of H.E. Johann Schneider-Ammann, President of the Swiss Confederation who outlined the current socio-economic challenges that his country is facing, informed on existing strategies and methods of resolving them, as well as stressed on the planned signing by the Government of Switzerland and the ILO of the agreement on further cooperation, which will provide for the allocation of funds by the Swiss party to support the International Labour Organisation’s activities.

During the plenary sessions of the Conference delegations will discuss the reports of ILO Director-General on the implementation of social policy programs and Chairman of the ILO Governing Body on its work in 2015 – 2016.

The ILC committees will focus on the realization of ILO Programme and Budget for 2016 – 2017, observance of the ILO conventions and recommendations, additional measures for strengthening the implementation of the ILO conventions, decent work in global supply chains, decent work for peace, evaluation of the impact of the ILO Declaration on Social Justice for a Fair Globalization 2008, maritime matters.

The participation of the Ukrainian side in the work of the Conference is ensured by the representatives of the Cabinet of Ministers, Ministry of Social Policy, the State Employment Service, State Labour Service, employers' organizations and trade unions, as well as the Permanent Mission of Ukraine in Geneva.
