On October 17 – 21, 2015 the 133th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union takes place in Geneva.
Parliamentarians of more than 130 member-states of the IPU and a number of representatives of international organizations, including NGOs, attend the event.
Participants of the Assembly, in the frameworks of general debates, are considering the moral and economic imperative for fairer, smarter and more humane migration as well as emergency item "Strengthening the role of parliamentarians in the effective implementation of the principles of international humanitarian law and international conventions on the protection of refugees". Moreover, the resolution "Democracy in the digital era and the threat to privacy and individual freedoms" is expected to be adopted in the end of the session.
The parliamentarian delegation of Ukraine in the frameworks of general debates has drawn attention of the forum to the current challenges in the field of migration, in particular, those that Ukraine had been facing after illegal annexation of Crimea by the Russian Federation and military aggression of this country in the southeast of our state, has emphasized on the activities of the Ukrainian authorities to tackle acute problems, related to resettlement of IDPs, as well as has expressed gratitude to the international community for solidarity and support of Ukraine's endeavors.
