The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, United Nations Office in Ukraine, Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation as well as other donors expressed their readiness to further assist Ukraine in overcoming the current challenges.

On May 29at the Palais des Nations in Geneva a briefing on the humanitarian situation in Ukraine was held. The main purpose of the briefing, organized by Geneva Branch of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA-Geneva) for UN Member States and International Organizations, was to give impetus to the allocation of donor resources in the framework of the UN Humanitarian Response Plan in Ukraine aimed to meet urgent humanitarian needs of 3.2 million people.

Deputy Director of OCHA-Geneva R.Muller, UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Ukraine N.Walker, Head of the Department of Humanitarian Aid of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) M.Bessler informed about relevant work of these international organizations and called upon potential donors to get increasingly involved in to humanitarian activities in Ukraine. Improving the situation in health care, social protection as well as restoration and maintenance of life support systems were, in their view, among the most crucial issues to tackle.

These organizations and other UN structures as well as individual countries declared their readiness to further assist Ukraine in overcoming current challenges and underlined the importance of establishing sustainable peace exclusively by peaceful means as well as respect for international humanitarian law by all parties.

Permanent Representative of Ukraine in Geneva, Ambassador Yurii Klymenko informed about the efforts being made by the Government to meet the primary needs of internally displaced persons and the population that suffers from deterioration, due to external aggression, of the humanitarian situation in our country. He also called upon potential donors to engage in the allocation of indispensable resources more actively.

On the same day Yurii Klymenko discussed, among other matters, abovementioned issues with UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Ukraine N.Walker.
