On June 25, 2014 Y.Klymenko, the Permanent Representative of Ukraine met with Marie-Pierre Poirier, Regional Director of UNICEF.

The Permanent Representative thanked the Regional Director for active work of the Fund in Ukraine and expressed hope for its continuation in the future.

Current issues as well as prospects of cooperation between our country and UNICEF have been discussed. Y. Klymenko drew attention to the active work of the Ukrainian side on the implementation of recommendations made in 2011 by the Committee on the Rights of the Child based on the results of the third and fourth periodic reports of Ukraine, presented in accordance with Article 44 of the Convention on the Rights of the Child. Permanent Representative stressed that the relevant issues are among the priorities of the Ukrainian Government. Taking the opportunity he assured that the latter has been exerting maximum efforts to prevent children from becoming victims of violence due to the activities of illegal armed terrorist groups in the East of the country, as well as urged UNICEF to be actively involved in prevention of violations of the rights of a child on the temporarily occupied territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea.

M-P. Poirier, in turn, noted the high level of cooperation between UNICEF and the Ukrainian authorities and expressed readiness to deepen it in the current difficult situation for Ukraine. She has also positively assessed the achievements of our country in ensuring children's right to education and in combating HIV/AIDS epidemics.
