On February 18 Mr. Yurii Klymenko, the Permanent Representative of Ukraine, met with Mrs. N.Pillay, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.

Current issues of cooperation between Ukraine and her Office (OHCHR) were discussed, in particular regarding the advancement of the initiative of Ukraine on the role of prevention in the promotion and protection of human rights and further providing the Ukrainian side with the OHCHR advisory and technical assistance.

UN High Commissioner was informed about current domestic political situation in Ukraine and efforts on its stabilization. N.Pillay thanked for the information and, in her turn, expressed hope for compliance of the efforts being undertaken by the Ukrainian side with international human rights norms and standards.

In the context of Ukraine’s cooperation within the framework of the UN Human Rights Council the attention of Mrs. Pillay was drawn to our country’s intention to renew its membership in the Council for the period of 2018-2020.

Mr. Yurii Klymenko also touched upon the issue of wider representation of Ukrainian experts in the OHCHR, which was noted with understanding by the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.
