On May 9, 2013 in Basel in the framework of the Day of Victory celebration was held commemoration of the killed during World War II Soviet soldiers. The solemn event took place at the honorary alley of "Hernli" cemetery in Basel where marble monument with names of Soviet soldiers, including – Ukrainians, is set.

During the event representatives of embassies and permanent missions of the former Soviet Union countries, accredited in Switzerland, conducted the ceremony of laying wreaths to the monument to Soviet soldiers.On the Ukrainian side the ceremony was attended by Ambassador of Ukraine in Switzerland Mr. I.Dir, Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the UN Office and other International Organizations in Geneva Mr. M.Maimeskul, employees of Ukrainian diplomatic missions and their family members.
