On February 20-21, 2020 the Governmental delegation of Ukraine, headed by Yurii Klymenko, Permanent Representative of Ukraine in Geneva presented the 7^th National periodic report on the fulfilment by our state of obligations under the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights during the 67^th session of the UN Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights.

Presenting the report, Y.Klymenko noted that due to the Russian aggression Ukraine is experiencing loss of human capital and negative social, economic and psychological consequences for the population. It was emphasized that the most important thing for Ukraine, apart establishing peace, is the provision of all social guarantees and ensuring the rights of its citizens, including IDPs.

The Ukrainian delegation, comprising of the representatives of the Ministries of social policy, justice, internal affairs as well as culture, youth and sports, informed in detail the members of the Committee about the measures taken by the Government to ensure the proper implementation of the provisions of the Covenant. Particular attention was paid to the implementation of the Law of Ukraine On Education and the Law of Ukraine On Ensuring the Functioning of Ukrainian as the State Language, in particular in the context of the recommendations of the Venice Commission regarding these legislative acts, as well as to the preservation of cultural heritage in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine.

The participation of the Ukrainian delegation in discussions with the Committee members as well as the progress made by our state in the areas covered by the Covenant since the presentation of the previous periodic report received a positive assessment. The experts noted the significant work done by the Government of Ukraine to ensure the fulfillment of its international obligations and its readiness to address the challenges encountered in this regard, especially in the context of the Russian aggression against Ukraine and the temporary occupation by the Russian Federation of the part of our state’s territory.
