Twelfth Meeting of the States-Parties to the Ottawa Treaty has started its work on December 3, 2012 in Geneva

The Twelfth Meeting of the States-Parties to the Convention on the Prohibition of the Use, Stockpiling, Production and Transfer of Anti-Personnel Mines and on Their Destruction (Ottawa Treaty) holds its sessions form 3 through 7 December 2012 inGeneva.

The Meeting involved participants from the States Parties to the Convention, observer countries and international and nongovernmental organizations, including United Nations Department for Disarmament Affairs, European Commission, Geneva Centre for Humanitarian Demining, International Committee of the Red Cross and others.

Ukraine is represented at the Meeting by the official delegation headed by the Director of the Directorate-General for International Security and Disarmament of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Mr. Olexandr Aleksandrovych. The delegation includes experts from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, National Council for Security and Defense, Presidential Administration, Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Emergencies and State Space Agency of Ukraine.

The Meeting will discuss issues related to the universalization of the Convention, implementation of its provisions for the destruction of stockpiles of landmines and clearing mined areas, as well as assess the progress in achieving the aims of the Cartagena Action Plan.
