On October 7– 11, 2019,the 70th session of the Executive Committee of the UN High Commissioner's for Refugees Programme is taking place in Geneva.
Participants of the session are discussing issues related to the review of current activities of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the revision of the Biennial Program Budget for 2020 – 2021, and are considering a wide range of problems in the sphere of assisting displaced persons and persons in need of additional protection in different regions of the world.
Special attention is paid to review of the implementation of the campaign to end statelessness for 2014 – 2024, as well as to the preparation for the first Global Refugee Forum to be held in Geneva this December.
During the session the Permanent Representative of Ukraine in Geneva Y.Klymenko highlighted, in particular, root causes of the large-scale internal displacement in Ukraine, and unprecedented humanitarian challenges it confronts due to continuing hybrid war waged by the Russian Federation against our country. Russia has been called to immediately stop its aggression and strictly implement the provisions of the Minsk agreements, that would allow to stabilize the humanitarian situation in the country. At the same time, the Permanent Representative expressed gratitude to the UNHCR and other international partners for their assistance to Ukraine in overcoming complex social and migration problems.
