On April9-10, 2019, the 68th biennial session of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) takes place in Geneva under the theme "Smart Sustainable Cities: Drivers for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development".
During the high-level segment of the session, in the work of which the UNECE member states' high-ranking officials, Mr. M.Møller, Director-general of the UN Office at Geneva, Ms. O.Algaerova, UNECE Executive Secretary, as well as the representatives of Geneva diplomatic corps took part, the issues of the urban development in the context of attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the results of the activities of the Commission since 2017 and further actions of the UNECE in the light of the achievement of the SDGs and implementation of the 2030 Agenda in the European region have been discussed. During the general segment, the report on activities of the Executive Committee of the UNECE and the outcomes of the meetings of its main bodies are being considered.
A new Bureau of the UNECE for the next biennial period will be elected at the session. The approval of the High-Level Statement is expected as a result of the event.
