On May 23, 2016 the Sixty-ninths session of the World Health Assembly began its work in Palais des Nations in Geneva. The key item of this year’s general discussion is “Monitoring of the achievement of the health-related Millennium Development Goals”.
The Assembly is considering a number of pressing issues in health sector, such as prevention and control of virus and non-communicable diseases, promoting health through the life course, eradication of the Ebola virus disease, problems of unhealthy diets and childhood obesity, adoption of the draft global plan of action on violence, draft road map for an enhanced global response to the adverse health effects of air pollution as well as draft framework of engagement with non-State actors etc. Particular attention is being paid to the situation around the spread of Zika virus and the topic of reforming the World Health Organization to adequately confront the new challenges.
Upon the results of the Assembly a number of resolutions and decisions will be adopted.
The participation of Ukraine in the Session, which will continue till May 28, 2016, is ensured by the representatives of the Permanent Mission of Ukraine in Geneva.
