Meeting of States Parties to Protocol II of the CCW took place in Geneva

On April 9 – 10, 2015 the Meeting of States Parties to Amended Protocol II on Prohibitions or Restrictions on the Use of Mines, Booby-Traps and Other Devices of the Convention on Prohibitions or Restrictions on the Use of Certain Conventional Weapons Which May Be Deemed to Be Excessively Injurious or to Have Indiscriminate Effects (CCW) took place in Geneva.

During the event its participants discussed issues related to the universalization and implementation of the Protocol, in particular in the context of improving the methods and ways of preventing the use of improvised explosive devices and taking measures to assist their victims.

The delegation of Ukraine in its presentation during the Meeting informed about the work done by our country in the realization of the aforementioned document, drew attention to the problem of usage of improvised explosive devices by illegal armed groups, supported by the Russian Federation, in the southeast of Ukraine, and appealed to the international community to provide assistance to our country in their disposing.

The abovementioned delegation, headed by the Permanent Representative of Ukraine in Geneva Y.Klymenko, included experts of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, State Emergency Service and Ministry of Defence of Ukraine.
