On November 10-11, 2014 the Eighth Conference of the High Contracting Parties to Protocol V on Explosive Remnants of War (ERW) of the Convention on Prohibitions or Restrictions on the Use of Certain Conventional Weapons Which May Be Deemed to Be Excessively Injurious or to Have Indiscriminate Effects (CCW) takes place in Geneva.

During the event its participants discuss issues related to the universalization, strengthening and implementation of the Protocol, in particular in the context of improving the methods and ways of increasing the efficiency of demining operations and management of safe ammunition storage.

Y.Klymenko, Permanent Representative of Ukraine in Geneva in his speech informed about the work done by the Ukrainian side in the realization of the aforementioned document, drew attention to the problem of the emergence of new areas contaminated by ERW due to the activities of illegal armed groups and servicemen of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation in the southeast of Ukraine, and appealed to the international community to continue providing effective assistance to our country in disposing of explosive remnants.
