On November 6 - 7, 2014 the UNECE Beijing+20 Regional Review Meeting on the Implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action took place in Geneva, which participants discussed problematic issues of empowerment of women and girls in the context of implementation of the Millennium Development Goals for the period after 2015.
During the 9th session of the panel entitled “The way forward: gender equality for inclusive and sustainable societies” the Minister of Social Policy of Ukraine L.Denisova has noted the focus of the current state policy of Ukraine on creating the necessary legal, social and political conditions for the fullest possible realization of the potential of women and men in all areas of labour, public and private life as well as overcoming all forms of gender discrimination. In this context the Minister has drawn attention to Ukraine`s accession on 07.11.2014 to a number of statements of the European Union on the gender equality issues in Europe proclaimed during the abovementioned Meeting.
L.Denisova has highlighted the new challenges currently faced by Ukraine in the protection of the vulnerable groups of people - women and children suffering from difficult living conditions in the areas of the southeast region of Ukraine temporarily controlled by the illegal armed groups, as well as the internally displaced persons, including those from the occupied territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea.
