On 15 September 2014 Y.Klymenko, Permanent Representative of Ukraine in Geneva, held a meeting with Prof. R.Heuer, Director-General of the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN).

The current issues of cooperation between Ukraine and CERN have been discussed. In this context, the Permanent Representative informed about the consistent steps being taken by our country to ensure the implementation of the Agreement between Ukraine and CERN concerning the granting Ukraine of the status of associate member in the Organization, the conclusion of which became an important landmark on the way of its integration into European scientific and research space.

The Ukrainian side’s participation in joint celebrations on the occasion of CERN’s 60^th anniversary at the end of this September was also considered.

At the same time, the Permanent Representative of Ukraine drew Director-General’s attention to the illegal attempts of the Russian Federation to extend its national jurisdiction over Ukraine’s nuclear facilities, installations and materials, located on the temporarily occupied part of the territory of our country in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol, which pose a threat to the international regime established by the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons.
