On September 12 Yurii Klymenko, the Permanent Representative of Ukraine in Geneva met with Zeid Ra'ad Al Hussein, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.
Permanent Representative of Ukraine congratulated the High Commissioner with taking his high office. Y.Klymenko expressed readiness of the Ukrainian side to enhance cooperation with the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), and emphasized the usefulness of reports of the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine (UNHRMMU). At the same time, he stressed the importance of further taking into account by both the OHCHR and UNHRMMU in their activities of the root causes of the deterioration of the human rights situation in Ukraine, which are, apparently, the illegal annexation of Crimea by the Russian Federation and its subversive activities in the southeast of our country.
The High Commissioner, for his part, supported the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine. He welcomed the peace initiatives by the President of Ukraine and expressed hope for their successful implementation. In this regard, he positively noted Ukraine's determination to a cessation of fighting, stabilization of the situation in the south-eastern regions and improvement, in interaction with the UN human rights mechanisms, of the human rights situation in Ukraine. In addition, the High Commissioner stressed the importance of taking into account by our state of relevant recommendations contained in the UNHRMMU reports.
