On July 10, 2014 Mr. Yurii Klymenko, the Permanent Representative of Ukraine met with Mrs. N.Pillay, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.
High Commissioner`s attention was drawn to the situation with regard to the illegal transfer to the Russian Federation and arbitrary detention on its territory of Ms. Nadiia Savchenko – officer of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, who had been captured last Juneby the terrorist armed groups operating in the Eastern Ukraine. The alarming trend of trafficking to the territory of the Russian Federation and arbitrary detention of Ukrainian citizens by the Russian side was emphasized.
The Ukrainian side expressed its hope for a proper reaction to arbitrary actions once again undertaken by the Russian Federation in brutal violation of the human rights and fundamental freedoms, as well as for assistance in the release of Ukrainian citizens, including N.Savchenko, being illegally detained by the Russian Federation.
N.Pillay expressed her concern over the aforementioned flagrant cases of arbitrariness in relation to citizens of Ukraine and promised that materials provided by the Ukrainian side will be studied, and appropriate reaction to the mentioned facts of human rights violations will follow.
Current issues of cooperation between Ukraine and the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, in particular in the context of preparation for the next, 27th session of the UN Human Rights Council to be held next September, have also been discussed during the meeting.
