On July 1-3th, 2014 the delegation of Ukraine headed by O. Sych, Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine takes part in the 34th meeting of the Coordinating Board of the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS).
In his speech at the opening of the meeting Deputy Prime Minister expressed gratitude to the international community for its proper assessment of the achievements of our country in combating HIV/AIDS, which allowed Ukraine to be elected for the first time to the Coordinating Board – the governing body of the Programme for the period 2014-2016.
O.Sych noted the willingness of the Government of Ukraine to continue increasing access to antiretroviral therapy for HIV-infected patients, implementing evidence-based medicine prevention programs for risk groups and also accelerating collaboration with NGOs operating in this area.
"Enhanced cooperation with UNAIDS will allow to optimize the participation of Ukraine in the international fight against HIV/AIDS, as well as to attract the resources of the international community for implementation of the national strategy for overcoming this dangerous disease", - the Deputy Prime Minister underscored.
In the framework of his visit to Switzerland O.Sych met with the leadership of the international organizations located in Geneva, in particular, with M. Sidibé, Executive Director of UNAIDS, R.Müller, Deputy Director of the OCHA Geneva Office, M-P.Poirier, Regional Director of UNICEF and A.Guterres, UN High Commissioner for Refugees. Attention was paid to the ways of providing assistance by the abovementioned international organizations to Ukraine in resolving a number of pressing problems, caused by the illegal annexation of Crimea by the Russian Federation and its subversive activities in the South-East of our state.
