On February 28, 2014 Mr. Yurii Klymenko, Permanent Representative of Ukraine met with Dr.Margaret Chan, Director General of the World Health Organization (WHO).
Current issues of cooperation between Ukraine and the WHO were considered, in particular, regarding preparation for the participation in the 67th World Health Assembly to be held this May.
Possible holding of M.Chan's visit to Ukraine in the second half of 2014 for discussing at the high level ways of providing support by the WHO in tackling issues in the sphere of health, primarily regarding fight against the epidemics of HIV/AIDS and multi-drug resistant tuberculoses, was also discussed.
Upon the request by the Director General Y. Klymenko informed her about the development of the internal political situation in Ukraine. Establishment in the Verkhovna Rada on February 27, 2014 of the coalition of majority "European choice" was noted, as well as approval of the new Ukrainian Government. In this connection attention of M.Chan was drawn to the appointment of Oleh Musiy to the post of the Minister of Health of Ukraine.
At the same time the Permanent Representative touched upon the importance of timely providing the necessary medical assistance to those injured in the recent actions of protest in Kyiv with possible involvement of the WHO mechanisms. This was perceived with understanding by the Director-General of the Organisation, who expressed her readiness to deepen cooperation with our country, in that area, in particular.
