On 18 November Permanent Representative of Ukraine Mykola Maimeskul met Director-General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Francis Gurry. At the meeting the parties discussed general achievements of the WIPO-Ukraine cooperation.
Director-General highly evaluated the work of Ukraine, especially in recent years, and reassured the Ukrainian part in further provision of all necessary professional backup to national specialists. He also expressed appreciation of having an opportunity to meet regularly with high ranking officials of Ukraine during their visits to Geneva.
Ambassador M.Maimeskul thanked Mr. Gurry for productive cooperation and stressed that in the time of global financial and economic tension the WIPO carries on its work systemically and efficiently.
The parties underlined as well successful implementation of the biennium Ukraine-WIPO cooperation programme signed in 2010 and discussed some prospects in view of the expected launch of the next programme by the end of this year. They also mentioned importance for national and world IP systems of the acquisition by the State Intellectual Property Service of Ukraine of the status of International Searching Authority and Intellectual Preliminary Examining Authority pursuant to the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT).
