The fourteenth meeting of States parties to the Convention against Torture and other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment took place at Palais des Nations in Geneva to hold elections to the UN Committee against Torture on 1^st of October 2013.

The secret ballot vote resulted in election of 5 new members of this respected UN human rights’ body – from Italy, China, Morocco, Nepal and Denmark – to replace those experts whose terms of office will expire on 31 December 2013.

153 delegations of the Convention’ States parties participated in the said elections, including the delegation of Ukraine headed by the Permanent Representative of Ukraine in Geneva Ambassador Mykola Maimeskul.
