Sixtieth session of UNCTAD Trade and development board
19 September 2013 17:14

The sixtieth session of trade and development board (UNCTAD) takes place at the Palais des Nations in Geneva from 16 to 27 September 2013.

Within the framework of the Session, chaired by the Permanent representative of Indonesia to WTO, the following issues are planned to be discussed: economic interdependence, the role played by domestic and regional demand in achieving sustainable economic growth, global value chains and their role in development, economic development in Africa, efforts to help the Least Developed Countries, and developing countries to cope with the long-lasting consequences of financial and economic crisis. The continuing fallout from the global financial and economic crises requires collective solutions and innovative thinking, and UNCTAD intends to engage pragmatically with member States to achieve this goal.

The UNCTAD member-states also congratulated Mr. Mukhisa Kituyi, of Kenya, who became UNCTAD’s seventh Secretary-General. He became the new Secretary-General on the 1-rst of September 2013 and he will be on the post for the four-year term.

The participation of the delegation of Ukraine in the work of the session is provided by the Permanent Mission of Ukraine to the United Nations Office and other International Organizations in Geneva.
