The Standing Committees of the Convention on the Prohibition of the Use, Stockpiling, Production and Transfer of Anti-Personnel Mines and on Their Destruction (Ottawa Convention) will hold their meetings on 27-31 May 2013 inGeneva.

The meetings of Standing Committees, which serve as the core of the Intersessional Work Programme, involved participants from the States Parties to the Convention and observer countries, as well as from a number of international and nongovernmental organizations.

Ukraine is represented at these meetings by the official delegation, which is headed by H.E. Mr. Mykola Maimeskul, Ambassador, Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the UN Office and other International Organizations in Geneva, and includes experts from National Security and Defense Council, Ministry of Defense, State Emergency Service, State Space Agency and the Secretariat of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.

The Standing Committees will discuss issues related to the universalization of the Convention and the state of implementation of its provisions for the destruction of stockpiles of landmines and clearing of mined areas and will also assess progress in achieving the aims of the Cartagena Action Plan.

The delegation of Ukraine participates actively in the meetings of Standing Committees, submitting to the States Parties the information on the actual state of fulfilment of our country's international obligations under the Ottawa Convention and on international cooperation in matters of obtaining of international technical assistance in this field.
