During in-person meeting on November 25, 2020 with the Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Daren Tang, the Permanent Representative of Ukraine in Geneva Yurii Klymenko congratulated the Director General on taking the office (since October 1, 2020) and assured him of the interest of the Ukrainian side in deepening practical interaction with the Organization, which is important in the context of the ongoing modernization of our state.
Daren Tang has praised the innovative potential of Ukraine, in particular in the fields of information technology and start-ups development, as well as has assured of the WIPO’s readiness to contribute to further development of the Ukrainian intellectual property system.
The results of recent WIPO events have been discussed, including the 61st series of Meetings of the Assemblies of WIPO Member States, as well as sessions of other committees and subsidiary bodies of the Organization, along with practical aspects of interaction in the framework of the bilateral Cooperation Program for 2020-2022 against the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Ukrainian side called for a more effective response of WIPO in accordance with the existing international legal framework to the submission of information to the Madrid System for the International Registration of Marks by the so-called "registered in Crimea" legal entities of the Russian Federation.
The WIPO Director General has expressed his readiness to visit Ukraine as soon as quarantine restrictions are lifted.
