The Conference on Disarmament (CD) started the first part of its 2012 session on the January 24, 2012 under the Presidency of Ecuador, represented by the Permanent Representative of Ecuador, Ambassador L. Gallegos.
First part of this year’s session of the CD will last until March 30, 2012. Egypt, Ethiopia, Finland, France and Germany will also hold the Presidency during 2012.
During the plenary session the Conference adopted its agenda for 2012 session and a list of observer states which will take part in this year's session of the CD.
As in previous years, the core items on the agenda of the Conference in 2012 will be the issues of nuclear disarmament, fissile materials, negative security assurances and prevention of arms race in outer space.
Ukrainian delegation is headed by the Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the United Nations Office and other International Organizations in Geneva H.E. Mr. Mykola Maimeskul.
During the plenary meeting Ukrainian delegation joined statements of the EU and the East European regional group in the CD.
