On 9-11 December 2019, the final General Council meeting of 2019 takes place at the World Trade Organization (WTO). The agenda of the meeting includes such issues as current progress in trade negotiations, initiatives aimed at overcoming the Appellate Body crises and improving the functioning of the regular WTO bodies, work programme on electronic commerce, extension of moratoriums on non-violation and situation complaints under the WTO Agreement on Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS) and on customs duties on electronic transmissions, etc.
The Ukrainian delegation headed by Taras Kachka, Deputy Minister of Economic Development, Trade and Agriculture – Trade Representative of Ukraine, is taking an active part in the meeting by making statements on most relevant for the Ukrainian side items on the agenda.
T.Kachka, Trade Representative of Ukraine, met with R.Azevêdo, Director General of the WTO, to discuss the prospects of the WTO negotiation process and the resolution of problematic issues that adversely affect functioning of the Organization, as well as Ukraine’s contribution to strengthening the multilateral trading system.
In addition, the Ukrainian delegation is conducting bilateral meetings with a number of WTO Members’ representatives, as well as the leadership of the International Trade Center (ITC) and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA).
