On August 22 – 23, 2019 the Meetings of Experts of States Parties to the Convention on Prohibitions or Restrictions on the Use of Certain Conventional Weapons Which May Be Deemed to Be Excessively Injurious or to Have Indiscriminate Effects (CCW) and its additional Protocols II and V take place in Geneva.
During the events, in accordance with their Program of Work, participants of the forums discuss issues related to the universalization, strengthening and implementation of these international instruments, including in the context of the relevant decisions made by the Fifth CCW Review Conference (December 12 – 16, 2016), as well as improvement of the methods and ways of increasing the efficiency of demining operations, management of safe ammunition storage, clearance operations of territories contaminated with explosive remnants of war (ERW), providing assistance to their victims, as well as review new mine-action technologies.
The delegation of Ukraine, which takes part in the mentioned forums, stresses on the international cooperation in implementing CCW and its Protocols at national level and, drawing attention to the problem of the emergence of new areas contaminated by ERW in Ukraine as the result of the ongoing Russian aggression, underscores the importance of further providing by the international community effective assistance to our country in disposing of explosive remnants.
