On October 14-18, 2018 the 139th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) is taking place in Geneva.
The participants of the Assembly at the general debate are focusing on discussing, first of all, the issue of parliamentary leadership in promoting peace and development in the age of innovation and technological change. In addition, after the discussion, a resolution entitled "Strengthening inter-parliamentary cooperation on migration and migration governance in view of the adoption of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration" should be approved, as well as a resolution on the emergency item chosen by delegates during the current Assembly, namely "Climate change – let us not cross the line". Reports of the standing committees of the IPU will be considered.
An expert hearing on "Non-admissibility of using mercenaries as a means of undermining peace and violating human rights" will be held during the session. The co-rapporteurs on this item are representatives of Ukraine and Jordan.
The Assembly is attended by parliamentarians from more than 130 IPU member states as well as representatives of a number of international, including non-governmental, organizations. Ukraine at the forum is represented by the parliamentary delegation led by its Head, the People's Deputy of Ukraine, Deputy Chairperson of the Committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on Foreign Affairs B.Tarasyuk. The Ukrainian parliamentary delegation also includes People's Deputies of Ukraine O.Sotnyk, L.Iemets, A.Shkrum, I.Popov and O.Bielkova.
