On September 21-25, 2020, the 61st series of meetings of the Assemblies of the Member States of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) take place in Geneva in the hybrid format.

Delegates to the General Assembly discuss reports on the work of WIPO's main committees and subsidiary bodies, as well as a wide range of issues aimed at further development of the international regulatory framework in the field of protection of intellectual property (IP) rights.

As outgoing WIPO Director General F. Gurry noted in his opening remarks, in the recent times, WIPO global IP system has expanded, there has been record buy-in to the treaties administered by the Organization, the development dimension has been mainstreamed, new programs and services are added, as well as WIPO has embraced the digital transformation.

Speaking in-person at the Assemblies during the general debate, Mr. Oleksandr Romanishyn, Deputy Minister for Development of Economy, Trade and Agriculture of Ukraine has drawn attention to the support of Ukraine and WIPO’s assistance to it in implementation of the joint initiatives envisaged in the bilateral Cooperation Program for 2020-2021, including the functioning of the national IP Training Center, improvement of the system of alternative dispute resolution, functioning of the TISCs network, as well as conducting other numerous activities aimed at awareness-raising and capacity building in the field of IP.

During the Assembly, the delegation of Ukraine is planning to sign the Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry for Development of Economy, Trade and Agriculture and WIPO regarding the provision of data to the WIPO ALERT data-sharing platform.
