On April 26-27, 2017 the 67th biennial session of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) is taking place in Geneva in the formats of the High-level segment (HLS) "UNECE at 70: Economic integration and cooperation towards 2030" and the General segment.
During today's HLS, in the work of which UNECE member states' high-ranking officials, Mr. M.Moeller, Director-general of the UN Office at Geneva, Mr. C.F.Bach, UNECE Executive Secretary, as well as the representatives of Geneva diplomatic corps took part, the outcomes of the 70 years old Organization's activities have been summed up and main directions of UNECE future work in the light of the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and implementation of the 2030 Agenda in the UNECE region have been discussed.
In his intervention Mr. Y.Klymenko, Permanent representative of Ukraine to the UN Office in Geneva, has drawn attention to the work of the Government of Ukraine on localization and adaptation of SDGs and highlighted the paramount objective of the economic dialogue within the UNECE which has to be fostering a sustainable, peaceful, and prosperous future across the UNECE region, guided by the full respect for international law.
During the General segment, the Report on activities of the Executive Committee of the UNECE is being considered. A new management of the UNECE for the next two-years period will be elected at the session. The approval of the High-Level Statement is expected as a result of the event.
