On April 6 – 8, 2016 the Meetings of Experts of States Parties to Protocol V on Explosive Remnants of War (ERW) and Protocol II on Prohibitions or Restrictions on the Use of Mines, Booby-Traps and Other Devices of the Convention on Prohibitions or Restrictions on the Use of Certain Conventional Weapons Which May Be Deemed to Be Excessively Injurious or to Have Indiscriminate Effects (CCW) take place in Geneva.
During the Meetings their participants discuss issues related to the universalization, strengthening and implementation of the Convention and its Protocols, improving the methods and ways of increasing the efficiency of demining operations, management of safe ammunition storage, clearance operations of territories contaminated with ERW, as well as providing assistance to their victims.
The delegation of Ukraine, which takes part in the mentioned events, informed about the international cooperation in implementing CCW Protocols at national level and, drawing attention to the problem of emergence of new areas contaminated by ERW in the southeast of Ukraine due to hostile activities of illegal armed groups, supported by the Russian Federation, appealed to the international community to continue providing effective assistance to our country in disposing of explosive remnants.
