On December 8-10 the 32nd International Conference of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (RCRC) is taking place in Geneva. Representatives of this Movement, RCRC National Societies, international organizations, including NGOs and of the UN system, as well as the Governments of States Parties to the Geneva Conventions take part in this event.
S.Sommaruga, President of the Swiss Confederation, who attended the inauguration of the Conference on 8 December, stressed, in particular, the importance and urgency of strengthening compliance of international humanitarian law - the main issue under consideration during the Conference.
In his speech during the general debate S.Petukhov, Deputy Minister of Justice of Ukraine – Head of the delegation of Ukraine, highlighted the importance for our country, which is facing serious humanitarian challenges due to external aggression and occupation of its territory, of strengthening cooperation between countries and with internationally recognized monitoring bodies and fact-finding mechanisms to prevent further violations of international humanitarian law and human suffering. Ukraine as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council (since January 1, 2016) will facilitate further promotion of humanitarian values on which the activities of the Movement of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies are based.
