On July 16, 2015 the Permanent Representative of Ukraine Yurii Klymenko met with the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra'ad Al Hussein.
They discussed ways to strengthen cooperation with the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), in particular in the context of the resolution "Cooperation and Assistance to Ukraine in the Field of Human Rights" adopted by the 29thsession of the Human Rights Council on July 3, 2015, and the activities of the Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine.
Emphasis was given to the situation with the Ukrainian citizens illegally detained in the Russian Federation, as well as to the human rights situation in the occupied Crimea and in certain areas of Donbas that are temporarily under the control of illegal armed groups.
Following the meeting, the parties signed the Protocol amending the Agreement between Ukraine and the OHCHR on the deployment of the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine, which provides forthe possibility of the Mission’s mandate renewals for extended 6-month period.
