On April 7 – 8, 2015 the Meeting of States Parties to Protocol V on Explosive Remnants of War (ERW) of the Convention on Prohibitions or Restrictions on the Use of Certain Conventional Weapons Which May Be Deemed to Be Excessively Injurious or to Have Indiscriminate Effects (CCW) took place in Geneva.
During the event its participants discussed issues related to the universalization, strengthening and implementation of the Protocol, in particular in the context of improving the methods and ways of increasing the efficiency of demining operations and management of safe ammunition storage.
The delegation of Ukraine in its presentation during the Meeting informed about the work done by our country in the realization of the aforementioned document, drew attention to the problem of the emergence of new areas contaminated by ERW due to the activities of illegal armed groups, supported by the Russian Federation, in the southeast of Ukraine, and appealed to the international community to continue providing effective assistance to our country in disposing of explosive remnants.
The abovementioned delegation, headed by the Permanent Representative of Ukraine in Geneva Y.Klymenko, included experts of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, State Emergency Service and Ministry of Defence of Ukraine.
