On December 9-11, 2014 the 35th meeting of the Coordinating Board (PCB) of the United Nations Joint Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) took place in Geneva.
The event was focused on the current state of the fight against HIV/AIDS and actions aimed at reducing stigma and discrimination; identification of the HIV/AIDS response priority steps to be included into the UN Post-2015 Development Agenda; problem issues in overcoming the epidemic and opportunistic infections by 2030; ways of halving HIV transmission among injecting drug users.
The delegation of Ukraine drew the attention of the Board to the deteriorating situation with the spread of HIV/AIDS in the southeast of Ukraine and in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea temporarily occupied by the Russian Federation, and called on UNAIDS to develop a program of targeted urgent measures to fight the epidemic which could be used in similar emergency situations.
During the event the PCB Bureau for the year 2015 consisting of Switzerland (Chairman), Zimbabwe (Vice-Chairman) and Ukraine (Rapporteur) was elected.
The delegation of Ukraine included the governmental and NGOs representatives as well as of the Permanent Mission of Ukraine in Geneva.
