The Meeting of the Parties to the Convention on Environmental Impact Assessment in a Transboundary Context (Espoo Convention) holds its sixth session on June 2-5, 2014, in Geneva. The event involved representatives from nearly 40 Parties to the Convention, international organizations, regional non-governmental organizations and universities.
The Espoo Convention sets out obligations of the Parties to assess the environmental impact of certain activities at an early stage of planning. It also lays down the general obligation of the States to notify and consult each other on all major projects under consideration that are likely to have a significant adverse environmental impact across boundaries.
The sixth session of the Meeting of the Parties to the Espoo Convention is being held in conjunction with the second session of the Meeting of the Parties to the Espoo Convention serving as the Meeting of the Parties to the Protocol.
Mr. Mokhnyk, Minister of ecology and natural resources of Ukraine, the Head of the governmental delegation of Ukraine, is to lead the High-level segment of the Meeting.
