On April 3, Mr. Yurii Klymenko, the Permanent Representative of Ukraine, met with Ms. Navanethem Pillay, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights. She was given an objective up-to-date information on the human rights situation in Ukraine and the Government's activities in this area. The destructive influence of the military intervention of the Russian Federation on the promotion and protection of the Crimean population`s rights and freedoms was emphasized.
The current level of interaction between Ukraine and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights was positively evaluated and itsprospects were discussed. In this regard Ms. N.Pilley welcomed the openness of the Ukrainian side to the cooperation with human rights mechanisms, including the Human Rights Council special procedures. Proper attention was paid to the issue of the deployment of the UN human rights monitoring mission in Ukraine.
