On September 27th, 2013 the UN Human Rights Council (HRC) in its 24th session adopted a consensus resolution "The role of prevention in the promotion and protection of human rights." This is the third resolution, which is adopted on the regular basis by the HRC since 2010, when Ukraine firstly initiated its review and adoption within the Council. This resolution is tabled by the interregional group of Ukraine, Morocco, Hungary, Poland, Maldives and Uruguay.
While introducing the draft resolution for the HRC consideration, Ambassador, Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the United Nations Office and other International Organizations in Geneva M.I.Maymeskul stressed the importance of prevention as a part of human rights activity and the need for further and thorough discussion of this issue at the national, regional and international levels. He also stressed that the main goal of this process should be to elaborate coordinated approaches of the international community to determination of the prevention of human rights violations and directions of its practical implementation.
