Within the framework of participation of the delegation of Ukraine in the 22nd session of the UN Human Rights Council (HRC), the Head of Ukrainian delegation, Permanent representative of Ukraine in Geneva Ambassador Mykola Maimeskul made a statement on 28 February 2013.
In his speech he confirmed intention and readiness of Ukraine, which takes part in the work of the of HRC since its establishing, to continue active cooperation with the Council, and informed about the decision of our State to renew the Council’s membership at the elections to be held in 2017.
The session participants were advised on achievements of Ukraine in the sphere of human rights protection, in particular, on national level, which were noted at the XVI Ukraine-EU Summit, as well as on corresponding priorities for Ukraine’s OSCE Chairmanship in 2013.
Along, in the context of further promotion of Ukraine’s initiative in the HRC on the role of prevention in the promotion and protection of human rights, he stressed the relevance of approaches proposed by Ukraine for prevention strategies and mechanisms in the sphere of protection of human rights and freedoms.
